set2k_1.jpg (47234 bytes)

2. Set 'Terrain mesh complexity' to 100   and 'Terrain texture size' to High.

For low altitude flights and faster loading scenery, leave unchecked 'Extended terrain textures'.
For high altitude flights but slower loading scenery, check 'Extended terrain textures'

3.  Uncheck 'MIP mapping' box. Set 'Filtering' almost to BILINEAR.

set2k_3.jpg (51066 bytes)

4. Other settings do not affect to photographic sceneries but may affect to 3D airport sceneries. So you can set to minimum to get better framerate while flying or set to maximum to get more detailed 3D airport sceneries.

Coast Lines Problem

Flight Simulator ever uses its own default coast lines and flatten custom detailed elevation mesh. To avoid this you have to remove coastline files from default FS scenery.

These files start with HYP and are in this folder :

C:\ Program Files \Microsoft Games\FS2002\SCENEDB\Easthem\eursw\Scenery

Move these files to a backup folder:

HYP524248.bgl
HYP524252.bgl
HYP528248.bgl
HYP528252.bgl

You can create a new scenery with these files and activate it when needed.

Now your coastline will be defined by terrain mesh.

Texture blurry

1. Flight Simulator is lazy loading textures. If you fly very fast or move in slew mode, textures may be displayed blurry. To avoid this you have to edit your FS2002.CFG configuration file.

Find your FS2002.CFG file. Usually it is in this folder:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\FS2002.CFG

If you are in a trouble finding your FS2002.CFG file, you can search for it. Click on Windows START button. Choose SEARCH. Type FS2002.CFG , then press OK. Now you can see where your file is located.

xpmenu01.jpg (41149 bytes)

2. Make a back up copy of your FS2002.CFG

Double click on FS2002.CFG file and select "Open with notepad" or open Notepad application, select "All files" instead of "text files (*.txt)" and open your FS2002.CFG file.

Locate a section named [TERRAIN]. Then change values of these lines:

TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.5000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.500000

notepad_fs2k.jpg (79768 bytes)

Save your file and close notepad.

Now Flight Simulator will load textures faster.
